Special Event for Persecuted Christians
Family Institute of Connecticut is, by our very nature, focused on Connecticut. Even on those occasions when we turn our attention to something on the federal level, it usually relates back to things happening here at home.
But there is one international story that is of such concern to us, and so commonly ignored by so many, that FIC has returned to it again and again. We mean the persecution of Christians and other religious minorities overseas.
As it happens, some of the most important work being done in defense of our brethren is happening right here in Connecticut. We want to bring one such event to your attention and encourage as many of our members as possible to attend.
You and your family are invited to a special Mass that will be celebrated by Archbishop Leonard P. Blair for persecuted Middle Eastern Christians on Sunday, April 15, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. The Mass will be held at St. Mary’s Church, 5 Hillhouse Ave., New Haven.
Bishop Bawai Soro, Chaldean Catholic bishop of Canada, will be the homilist.
At approximately 3:00 p.m. after the Mass, refreshments will be served in the church hall where Archbishop Blair and Bishop Soro will give a presentation and participate in a panel discussion and Q&A on the situation facing Christians in the Middle East.
Even if you cannot attend the Mass, we hope FIC members, which include adherents of many different denominations, will attend the presentation afterward. Christians from across a wide range of communions are being slaughtered right now for what we all have in common: our belief in Jesus Christ.
